The solitary chattering of a clarinet, this work is predominantly a polyphonic study of great virtuosity. If some multiple sounds appear at the beginning, by way of introduction, it is largely on extremely swift leaps in register that the development of the work is based, thus creating the permanent illusion of polyphonic writing.
